Steamrail Victoria is a Voluntary Not-For-Profit organisation dedicated to the restoration and operation of vintage steam, diesel and electric locomotives and carriages.  We operate all over the Victorian broad gauge network offering a variety of tours for all tastes. Steamrail runs regular day and occasional weekend tours to interesting and popular destinations.

Friday 4th July 2008 - The Geelong Flyer

Please Note: This train will depart from Platform No.5 at 9.20am from Southern Cross Station. Also note that the train will depart Geelong at 1.05pm to head back to Melbourne arriving at Southern Cross at 2.22pm. The reason for the early departure is to try and beat the peak hour services out of Southern Cross.

Looking for school holiday ideas for the kids? Steamrail Victoria invites you to enjoy a nostalgic steam train journey from Melbourne to Geelong, where family fun and relaxation awaits you.

Board our historic steam train from Southern Cross Station. Our train recreates the golden era of country passenger trains from half a
century ago, a great learning experience for the children. These carriages feature timber panelling, walk through corridors, comfortable compartment style seating with opening windows, toilets and washrooms, and a fully stocked Buffet car. The train will be hauled by one of Steamrail’s historic steam locomotives.

any assistance to ensure an enjoyable and safe day.

Our steam train will make additional stops for intermediate passengers wishing to board at Footscray and Newport. Enjoy a journey down to Geelong, travelling on part of the Victorian Fast Rail Network.

Once in Geelong, there is the opportunity to explore this bay side city at your own leisure.

The Ford Discovery Centre and the National Wool Museum are full of history and learning. The waterfront is only a few minutes walk from the Station, where you can find shops, parks and gardens. There are ample restaurants, café’s and fish ‘n’ chip shops, perfect for a family luncheon. You can also take a picnic hamper onboard the train, to enjoy a family lunch by the bay.

Our departure at 1.05pm will see us heading back to Melbourne, so settle back in your compartment as our train charges out the city of Geelong heading on a course set for home.
